Dear Sirs,

We have communicated with the Company’s Engineer on the subject of your letter of the 20th inst. He informs us that the Embankment is being made in persuance of the arrangement made with Mr Blandford - that he has incurred very considerable expence and trouble in order to comply with that arrangement and that he cannot now depart from it.

Mr Blandford's assumption as to the level of the railway is not correct as that will be 2 feet above the level of the present Turnpike Road.

We are Dear Sirs Yours very truly
H G & Timothy W Awdry

Messrs Maule & Gore Melksham
