Photograph of an inscription inside a pilot tunnel at Folkestone Warren by Peter Hewitt for INGOT picture story "Trade Route Under the Channel"

A 11.5 x 9.7 inch, black and white print taken by Peter Hewitt, on behalf of Richard, Thomas and Baldwins Ltd, showing an inscription which is cut into the wall at a pilot tunnel at Folkestone Warren beach. The inscription says that the tunnel was started in 1880. This image appears in the picture story “Trade Route Under the Channel,” September 1958 issue, p. 9. The magazine states that research suggests the tunnel was actually started in 1882.

The print has a yellow job sticker on the reverse with the following details: Job: INGOT 10, Screen: 120, Height: 3 1/2, Width: 3 1/4. Pencil marks on the reverse indicate where the photograph should be cropped for publication
