Printed material and notes on train resistance and bridge loading

Folder contains printed material, loose documents and an original folder annotated 'Train Resistance' by Kenneth Cantlie. Printed material includes a publication titled 'Regulations and Standards for the Construction of Railways' by Chinese Government Railways 2nd edition 1923 and an organisational chart of LMS [London Midland & Scottish Railway] Railways Chief Mechanical Engineers Department including carriage and locomotive works dated in November 1934. A bundle of correspondence from the consulting engineer of Nanking Shanghai Railway J. Lumsden Rae and Kenneth Cantlie's draft responses and copy letters between 13th July 1934 and 20th December 1934 discussing locomotive design, bridge and wheel loading, Chinese, British, American and other international standards on railways and bridge design in China and Cooper's bridge loading scales in reference to Chinese bridges; a bundle of hand-drawn graphs on calculations regarding weight and speed, hand-drawn graphs of motor car stopping rates; folder titled 'Train Resistance' contains hand-written notes, calculation and graphs, a hand-written bundle of calculations titled 'CNR Comparative Rolling Resistance of 4 wheel bogie High Cap. wagons' and a bundle of hand-written foreign can freight resistance calculations. A portion of the notes are written on paper with header Ministry of Railways, National Government Republic of China, indicating early 1930s.
