Letter from Francis Trevithick, Engineer of the London & North Western Railway, replying to Worthington’s note of 27 February 1855 “asking for engine power for additional goods train”. Trevithick reports that the Directors have issued an order to cease the construction of additional engines beyond a certain number now in hand and therefore, strictly speaking, the request cannot be granted; but he adds that while they have an engine fit to work, “the traffic shall not stand for want of power”.
