‘Travelling by the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, 1836’ timetable

Early Liverpool & Manchester Railway timetable pasted on a thick oak board. Provides the times of departure both from Lime Street Station, Liverpool, and from Liverpool Road Station, Manchester. Destinations include Warrington, Wigan, Bolton, St Helen’s and Runcorn Gap. Details of fares also given. The timetable is numbered 245.

Two newspaper cuttings affixed to reverse of oak board indicate that this item was purchased at an auction at Sotheby’s on 29th July 1904. One is an excerpt from the Sotheby’s catalogue describing the item, dated 28th July 1904. The other is an extract from the Manchester Courier dated 29th July 1904, reporting on the sale of the item that afternoon at Sotheby’s.
