Copy letter from S. E. Bolden to Joseph Locke, MP

Copy letter from S. E. Bolden, Secretary to the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway Company, informing Joseph Locke, MP, that the London & North Western Railway have stated it is not their intention to continue the supply of locomotive power for the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway after the expiration of the present contract in July 1857. Bolden encloses a copy of a resolution passed by the Directors of the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway instructing him and Mr Worthington to consult with Messrs Locke and Errington “as to the state of the market for locomotive engines, and the prospective advantage to this Company of purchasing stock for themselves”.
