Letter from Francis Trevithick, Engineer of the London & North Western Railway, replying to Worthington’s letter of 17 November 1855. Trevithick agrees that the present stock of engines is insufficient for the work of the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway, but explains that the London & North Western Railway has no spare engines available to meet the line’s increasing traffic.
