Copy letter from S E Bolden, Secretary to the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway Company, to Joseph Locke, MP

Bolden advises that the London & North Western Railway have informed the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway Company that it is not their intention to continue the supply of locomotive power for the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway after the expiration of the present contract in July 1857. Bolden also encloses a copy of a resolution passed by the Directors of the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway that he and Mr Worthington consult with Messrs Locke & Errington ‘as to the state of the market for locomotive engines, and the prospective advantage to this Company of purchasing stock for themselves’
