Address delivered by William Ripper at the opening meeting of the Cleveland Institution of Engineers, at Middlesbrough, November 5th, 1883. Ripper opens by stating that he wishes to call attention 'to the fact that, while great efforts, meeting with marked success, are being put forth for the Technical Instruction of Artizans in various branches of English Industry [...] the educational prospects of Mechanical Engineering are not so good'. Suggests best practice for educating mechanical engineers, and describes what a school for mechanical engineers should be like (pp 28-30). Printed in Sheffield by J F Hanson, Printer and Bookseller, Fargate, in 1883. Price one shilling. Signed 'With the author's compliments' and, in different handwriting, 'Gilbert Redgrave, 27/XII/83'.
