Manuscript letter in 3 pages from John Johnson of the New Jerusalem School, Wigan, dated 16 March 1882 to M. W. Peace Esq. Enclosed with letter are two hand drawn tables that show the number of pupils attending each subject (including Freehand, Geometric Drawing, Perspective, Mathematics etc.) and how many of them have passed examinations. Annotations states that teaching of Chemistry has ceased "because of Mining School" The letter states "science and art here never very successful. They are now closed".
