Manuscript letter from F.O. Cresswell, 239 Oriel Road, Bootle, to Samuel Leigh-Gregson Esq., dated 5th February 1882. Letter encloses a folded sheet with 'a few humble thoughts on Technical Education' in which Cresswell states 'I am decidedly of the opinion that trained artisans are best Science Teachers'. The enclosed manuscript sheet details the author's belief in practical experience over college education as the background of the best teachers, and that inventions are often the result of accidents experienced by 'workers' in practice.
