Address of the President, H E Roscoe, dated July 5th 1882. Argues for highly-trained scientific chemists. In favour of colleges and technical schools. Concludes: 'my object in the foregoing remarks has been to show that in certain branches, at least, of Chemical Industry it is only the highest and most complete scientific training that can insure commercial success' (page 11).
