Manuscript letter from A. J. Briant, 4th February 1882, concerning technical education.

Manuscript letter from A J Briant, dated 4th February 1882. Written in response to a request for evidence that could be presented to the Royal Commission. Briant argues that 'a system of Technical Instruction, upon a similar basis to that of the Science & Art Department should be established throughout the country, & that special teachers should be appointed for the purpose of carrying on the work'. Briant argues that 'there is no doubt that the best teacher of a technical subject is a practical man provided he be intelligent, has a good general education & does not work simply by rule of thumb'.
