Liverpool science and arts classes (in connection with the Government department of science and art). Session 1881-82. Syllabus of subjects, &c.

Lists evening classes in Science and Arts in 1881-82 in Liverpool, in seven locations within the city. Details of various syllabi and the times and teachers of the new classes. 'These Classes were established for the purpose of affording instruction in those subjects of Art and Science specified in the regulations of the Government Science and Art Department of the Committee of Education, South Kensington, and most of the subjects included in the list given by that Department are now taught in these Classes' (p.8). There are a couple of classes for women, taught by Miss Helen Fryer. Some pen annotations throughout, notably scribbling out 'Agriculture' as it seems the class was cancelled after being poorly attended. Annotated 'No 1' in pen at top of front cover (compare to [RCTI/1/3/23] and [RCTI/1/3/24] which are annotated 'No 2' and 'No 3' respectively, in the same hand). There are two inserts pinned to the back cover with a metal pin. The larger of the two opens 'It is desired to call your attention to the accompanying Prospectus' and is signed M. Fitzpatrick, 62, Steel Street. The insert then contains a summary of what is held within the syllabus. The other insert highlights 'Lectures to Ladies' in Animal Physiology and General Biology.
