The introductory lecture delivered before the Faculties of Arts and Laws and of Science, October 1st, 1879. Delivered by Professor Charles Graham, D.Sc. Gives a definition of technical education: 'the application of scientific knowledge to the industrial processes of the arts, manufactures, mines and agriculture'. Also argues that the 'establishment of Chairs, Museums, and Laboratories for Technology in Colleges and Universities in the United Kingdom is an imperative necessity; and in the absence of Government aid we must trust to the public spirit of individuals and of corporations' (page 13). 4 copies: 1 in fair condition stamped with the seal of the Royal Commission on Technical Instruction on detaching cover, and containing pencil annotations; 3 in poor condition with detaching covers.
