File is comprised of two bundles of printed materials produced by the Railway Reform Group, Paul Salveson, Transport 2000, Steer, Davies and Gleave, the Transport Independent Advisory Group, and others (1995-1998). Bundle one contains contact lists of the Franchise Forum and Rail Policy Roundtable, bound report and minutes of the Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Committee on "The Proposed Strategic Rail Authority and Railway Regulation", typed reports including "A Strategic Rail Authority - Proposals for Establishment and Structure", "Strategic Rail Authority - Driving the Network", "Performance for Public Accountability" and memorandum to the Transport Sub-Committee of the Select Committee on the formation of a Strategic Rail Authority, "Towards a Rail Policy for Labour", "Trains for People? Opportunities for a Railway Renaissance", "New Labour, New Railway", "Response to Government Rail Proposals", "A New Deal for Rail", "Putting the Railways Together Again", and an updated report by Steer, Davies and Gleave "The Economics of Rail Privatisation" (1996) updating information from their 1993 report. Bundle two contains printed discussion papers including "Towards A Rail Policy for Labour", "Out of the Sidings: Rail policy after Thatcherism", "Changing Railtrack's Charging Policies", and other typed drafts and final reports including a stapled copy of Steer Davies and Gleave's "Rail Privatisation: A Way Forward"; minutes from Transport Independent Advisory Group and Rail Policy Roundtable meetings; and letters appending the drafts, produced by Stephen Joseph, Paul Salveson at Transnet, Clare Short and others, which discuss the foundations and infrastructure of privatisation and its supervision by various entities.
