Contains materials relating to the organisation and promotion of annual Local Transport Day events in relation to Transport 2000’s campaigning for local transport policy 1993 – 2005, and in response to legislation such as A New Deal for Transport white paper 1998 and the Local Transport Plans produced by councils from 1998 onward. Includes correspondence between Don Mathew, Consultant on Transport and the Environment and possibly Transport 2000’s coordinator for Local Transport Day, and local organisations including local groups of Transport 2000 and Friends of the Earth, Hertfordshire Conservation Society, Council for the Protection of Rural England, and the Cycling Tourists’ Group, as well as local contacts in e.g. Suffolk, York, Kingston, Coventry, Gloucester, Cheshire, Sheffield, Sussex, North Lancashire, Merton, Ealing, and Camden, covering their confirmation or negation of attendance for the annual events 1995-1999; activists’ briefings with resource information, contextual information on the need for Local Transport Days including integrated transport, creation of a Strategic Rail Authority, traffic management, road traffic reduction, and safety, and guidance and best practices for local transport campaigning; papers relating to administrative and strategic coordination of Local Transport Day, including meeting minutes, discussion papers, facilitators’ briefings, summary reports, manuscript notes, and logistical notes on organising events; promotional leaflets and booklets produced by local organisers of Local Transport Day to spread awareness of the event and enhance participation, including from York; a bundle of black-and-white contact sheets and one full-sized black-and-white 8x10-inch photograph from National Cycle Week 1996; press releases produced by Transport 2000 and others on Local Transport Day and related topics, including the Heart of Wales line; and news cuttings of coverage of the Local Transport Day events.
