One series of print and digital materials, including press releases; letters and correspondence; working group and meeting notes; consultation responses; newsletters; research reports; video recordings; photographs; and a small number of maps, which illustrate strategies to reduce road and motorway development projects in England, Scotland, and Wales at local, regional, and national levels (1975-2014).
Materials document Transport 2000/Campaign for Better Transport's activities campaigning against road and motorway works such as widening and the construction of link roads, relief roads, or bypasses; producing research studies and reports, and collaborating with lawmakers through consultation responses; lobbying; and media work, as well as collaborative work with local groups and councils, The National Trust, Alliance Against Road-Building, the Highways Agency, South Coast Against Road-Building, The Conservation Society, Council for National Parks, Friends of the Earth, Campaign to Protect Rural England, Sustrans, Greater London Council, and London Centre for Transport Planning.
The series also contains background materials relating to campaigns conducted by other environmental groups such as Alliance Against Road-Building, Friends of the Earth, and the Campaign to Protect Rural England related to road campaign projects in Great Britain.
Documents are arranged according to campaign or initiative, including “Roads for the Future”; roads spending reviews; roads white paper comments; Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) projects; Standing Advisory Committee for Trunk Road Assessments; multi-modal and roads-based studies; and campaigns around distinct building initiatives such as the M25, Stonehenge, Salisbury bypass, and Westbury bypass.
