One bundle of printed materials collected by Michael (Mick) Hamer relating to the formation and early activities of Transport 2000 (later Campaign for Better Transport) including letters produced by Dr Leonard Taitz, Sidney Weighell, Michael Hamer and Nick Lester (1977) relating to Mick Hamer’s appointment as first full time director and operations manager of Transport 2000 and the appointment of his team, including Nick Lester, who later became another Director of Transport 2000; contract of employment of Michael Hamer for Transport 2000, produced by Transport 2000 and signed by Signey Weighell and Michael Hamer (1977); one bound report of evidence produced by the National Motorways Action Committee and Friends of the Earth "A case against the M16 motorway" (later M25) (1976); one bound copy of "Vital Travel Statistics" produced by Mick Hamer of Transport 2000 and Stephen Potter of the Open University (1979); letters from the British Railways Board and Department of Transport (1977-1979), which discuss Lester and Hamer's discussions about rail travel passes and of British Railways' provision of funding to Transport 2000; typed minutes of a meeting between Tom Burke and Michael Hamer (1977); press cuttings (c. 1977-1979) on motorway and rail actions; typed meeting notes to a meeting (1980) and minutes of evidence given in the inquiry on lorries, people and the environment (the Armitage report); and letters from Norman Fowler of Department of Transport, Michael Hamer of Transport 2000, and Nigel Haigh of the Civic Trust (1979), which respectively discuss the publication of Vital Travel Statistics, the need for electrification, and campaigning against lorries.
