Papers from the early years of the Stockton & Darlington Railway’s operation

This series documents Raisbeck's often tricky relationships with Edward Pease and Francis Mewburn. It covers the difficulties faced by the Committee as the railway began to mature such as the relationships with colliery owners, the emergence of a rival line in the form of the Clarence Railway and the Stockton & Darlington Railway's controversial extension to Middlesborough. The Middlesborough extension precipitated Raisbeck's resignation as solicitor of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, although it appears he retained an involvement in the company thereafter.
