Following a meeting in Stockton, that a committee appointed ‘obtaining the requisite information’ on ‘a canal or railway for the conveyance of merchandise between Stockton and the interior county’. Listing committee members, including Edward Pease, Backhouse, and others.

At a public meeting held this day at the Townhouse in Stockton
Resolved
That it appears to this Meeting that a Canal or Railway for the Conveyance of merchandise between Stockton and the Interior country will be of considerable advantage to that port and to the Several towns or places connected with it in a commercial point of view
That a committee be appointed for obtaining the requisite Information on the subject and that as soon as they are prepared to make a report a general Meeting of the Merchants and others within the district of the port of Stockton be held to receive and consider the same
That such Committee consist of Mr Jonathan Backhouse jun'r Mr Edward Pease Mr Botcherby Mr Todhunter Mr Hollingsworth Mr John Janson Mr Jos'h Pease Mr William Backhouse and Mr Will'm Kitching of Darlington Mr Benj'n Flounders Mr James Procter Mr Marshall Morehouse Mr Cuthbert Wigham Mr Bentham and Mr. Foss of of Yarm and the Mayor and Collector of Stockton and Mr Wilkinson Mr Crowe Mr Matt'w Wadeson Mr Richard Jackson W Alcock Mr Dickson Mr Braithwaite Mr Jn'o Hutchinson Mr Wetherell Mr Richmond Mr Christopher and Mr Aaron Richardson of that place and Mr. Coalpits Harrison and Mr John Gibson of Barnard Castle

that a subscription be now opened for the purpose of defraying the Expence of the Committee and that Subscription papers be left for Signatures at the Several Banks in Stockton and Darlington
