A note informing Jonathan Backhouse that: ‘We received your letter of the 9th inst late in the evening after that day & will lay the same before the Tees Navigation Company. We think it right to remark that we were made acquainted with the purport of the Resolution of your meeting two days before your communication was addressed to us and indeed the Resolutions had been previously printed & circulated.'
