Relating to another divisive episode in the history of the line, namely the construction of a railway bridge over the Tees as part of the Middlesborough extension. Raisbeck once again found himself at odds with the majority, echoing the opposition of the Tees Navigation Co. (TNC) to the Stockton & Darlington Railway. In the end a compromise was reached, and a bridge was constructed that satisfied the TNC, allowing the Middlesbrough extension to open in December 1830.
