My dear Sir
On my return from Darlington last Evening I found your favor of the 11th inst. I by no means question the right of any party to obtain information from any Quarter as to matters in which he is personally concerned but still I think that between friends candour & open dealing where they can be practised without prejudice ought to prevail. My Communication to this RW Co. was well meant & I thought worthy of attention. It is always to be lamented & in public measures particularly that the suggestions & observations of a minority should be denied their due weight – I am sorry I cannot give a satisfactory answer to your Questions not being in possession of the sentiments of the Tees Nav Co on the subject _
Indeed I have had no communication with them thereon since Mr. Alderson’s opinion was first taken into consideration, but I will with pleasure meet you to confer on the Case free if we can hit off any arrangement which may be likely to be acceptable to both parties & thus prevent litigation
