Meynell writes to Raisbeck to express his extreme reluctance to attend the upcoming meeting of the Stockton and Darlington Railway; 'I imagine my sentiments…will claim little attention from the Gentlemen of Darlington as I presume they now regard me as a Black Sheep'. He nevertheless offers Raisbeck his proxy vote, outlines some advise on how the railway might tackle the issue of the Clarence Railway, and indicates he would attend if Raisbeck thought it vital; 'I will overcome the repugnance I feel at present to trouble the Proprietors with my company'.
