to finish our journey on foot.
Had about 3 hours skating & snowballing, ice rough & covered with snow. Old Jonathan threw snowballs with great spirit. Had tea in the large room & afterwards stood round fire in the hall. I played several tunes on Braggs [sic] flute, & there was a good deal of pretty noisy singing.
In returning in the evening we again broke down & roused(?) up a blacksmith for some spun-yarn with which we cobbled up the sledge, & by dint of walking most of the way home, some times up to our knees in snowdrifts we managed to

arrive at about 11 p.m.
Next day we returned to town, & strange to say, my dispeptic [sic] symptoms had disappeared, convincing me that air & exercise is all I want.
Office routine has since made me aware I have a stomach.
Feb 28. I have at last moved to Gateshead, pro sanitatis bono, & have now been here a week. I feel considerably better already. My only bad symptoms now are a disinclination for any work requiring thought for about 2 or 3 hours after dinner, and a pain in my left side, about the region of the heart, which
