morning I would go off to N[ew]castle & get a new set of valves. The engine would start work again, at 6 in the morning.
Sept 19. Sat[urday]. Went to Newcastle, at the works found Crow, showed him the pieces that came out of the cyl[inder][.] We immediately put in hands, the new valves; I made a sketch considerably strengthened, & also we determined to make a rose cutter for truing up the valve seats. I saw Mr Weallens & gave him an account of our doings, he seemed pleased with my report.
It was agreed that the men working at the valves & cutter(,) should stop all

night & have them ready for me to take by the 6 o’clock train on Sunday morning so that we might have them all in by the Monday morning. I called on the Watsons in the evening, & was greeted by the whole family except the 3 oldest male members, rushing out upon me; I found them going out so did not stay long, but went & stopped with the Dixons for an hour or two.
Sept 20th. Sun[day]. Got up at 4.30, went to the works, & found all finished and ready for me; came away by 6.0 train & got to Darlington at 8.0. In the train I met with two Belgians, with one of whom I had a good deal
