Thursday 10th Decr I have been busy lately getting out drawings of a new parabolic governor, and new arrangement of steam pipes for No.151 factory engine (Jennings’). It has been an awkward job rather, & took a deal of scheming.

Thurs[day] 10 Dec 1857. This morning Snowball came into our office, & to my great surprise told me he had just had a letter from Mr Weallens, who was in London, in which he said “Tell Jereh [struck through] Head I must see him not later than

Saturday morning”.

I did not know what to make of this, but guessed he required my services in some way or other – I therefore got my work in the office as forward as possible.

On Saturd. [struck through]

Sat[urday]. Dec 12. This morning his majesty came into the office and beckoned me out. We walked into the pattern shop, & [he] told me that(,) it was probable our firm were going to manufacture a number of engines for Fowler’s steam plough, that Mr Stephenson had seen it in operation, & thought it good in principle, but perceived many imperfections.
