Oct 13 Tues[day]. I determined to make a request to the Governors of the mill, to appoint a day when they would meet me at the mill, and inspect the engines, make enquiries of all parties, as to how they were satisfied, & then let me know their opinion in writing.

Went to a partridge supper at Theodore Leas’es in the evening & played at whist.

Wed[nesday] Oct 14 –
Thursd[ay] “ 15 Went to meeting – communicated my wishes about meeting the Peases to young Edward who said he considered the request reasonable, & would do his best to bring it about.

Friday Oct 17 [struck through] 16 Have been very busy making a table

of how far it is worth while to expand in engines, & have made a very useful thing of it.

Sat[urday]. Oct 17. The new spring boxes have arrived for the valves also, the bottom syphon boxes for the connecting rods.

Went to N[ew]castle, & was introduced to William Liddle the man who is to take charge of the engines. He seems a pleasant unassuming man, & Crow has a very high opinion of him. I ordered some black paint, some washers for the escape valves, I [struck through] a dozen new fire-bars, & 16 check nuts for the cam shaft.

Looked out at Lit & Phil for books relating to the subject of my paper, but found nothing
