Tuesd[ay] [December] 29 Went down again early & got the drawings of the new wheel finished. [Illegible deletion] Fowler came down in the afternoon & inspected the model, which was finished at night, ready for me to take away next day.
I had a farewell opportunity with the firm who promised me any tracings wanted, on condition I did the same for them; Mr Robert thought this affair might turn up a trump for me. I engaged to get a locomotive draughtsman for Charley R _
Wed[nesday]. [December] 30. Went to London with Fowler: appointed to

meet him at Stephenson[‘]s at 12.45.
I was punctual, saw Stephenson who told me in a most polite manner he was engaged then, but would be happy if Fowler and myself would take a chop with him at 6 o’clock_ . I accepted and went outside to meet Fowler. While doing so I fell in with Walter May who is improved in appearance & manners.
I waited above half an hour, & concluded Fowler must have gone to Stephenson’s house instead of his office, which proved to be the case, for presently, up he drove in a cab.
We lunched together off Irish stew, at Simpsons [40]
