Documents work on Brusselton and Etherley inclines, records that the Royal George locomotive started work on 29 Nov 1827 and broke down on 13 Dec, that No.1 locomotive (afterwards known as Locomotion) exploded at Aycliffe Lane while taking in water on 1 July 1828, killing its driver, John Cree; Inside cover bears name 'James Dixon, Darlington'.

Bears some later notes written by John Wesley Hackworth after Hackworth's death including testimonies gathered by him from John Greathead, apprenticed to the Stockton and Darlington Railway, George Jenn, who was trained on the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
