Sorry about Jane’s ‘low spritness’; Mrs John [John Wesley Hackworth’s wife, Jane’s sister in law] had bought her a gold pencil case for her birthday; “Phebe” Moses is dead; has she recieved her mantle [kind of shawl] yet? Describes bonnets and caps in detail, Prudence is ‘well aware that anything shabby or old fashioned worn by a lady in a large school subjects her to a shower of persecution such I should not like you to stand under’ Mr Harker & Mr James, Miss and Mrs Brewsher, Roger intends going out to Australia, Mrs Gent, Mdlle Justine is recovering.
