Dear Sir
I beg to acknowledge your note respecting your Engine now working on this line – I fear there is a misapprehension as regards the trial of yours and another Engine from another maker now on the line; also for trial- and I hasten to set you right on the matter.
Your Engine is allowed to run by the Directors simply on trial to enable you and them to ascertain the capabilities and economy of the Engine itself, but certainly not as a competitor with ours or any Engine whatever.
There may possibly be comparison made in this office afterwards but these will be strictly official for the information of the Directors and not intended for either party or the public without their permission being obtained.
