I. E. McConnel Dear Sir
I take the present opportunity of acknowledging your kindness to my son, when he called upon you respecting the new Loco. Engine, also for the facilities you offered towards testing the capabilities of the engine, by a course of experiments on your line.
The engine has now been with you nearly a fortnight, during which time my sons have accompanied her on her journeys, & been exposed to the late severe weather, as they have not been accustomed to such exposure; I feel anxious that the course of experiments should be entered into with the opposing engine whilst the weather continues open.
May I beg the favor of you sending me the code of regulations, by which you intend the respective engines to be guided during the trial; being fully aware myself, as doubtless you are, of the importance which is attached to the results of these experiments, and the necessity there is of throwing strong guards on integrity for the inspection of each party, I feel confident that you will see the propriety of my being satisfied with the arrangements, previous to the engines going together.
