Letter and envelope from Prudence Hackworth, Soho Works and Thomas Greener, Etherely

Give thanks for attention given to her sister’s claims [probably Elizabeth Holmes (nee Hackworth)]. Apologises for worrying the Greener’s about her illness 'all danger of a return of the bleeding has ceased…the last rupture did not proceed from emaciation but from imprudently reaching aloud at a very rapid rate for many hours together' Miss H [Hannah] Smith has been nursing her, thanks for offer from Greener’s of receiving her at Etherley. Suggests that tenders for purchase of hire for Soho should be advertised in papers. In docket 'P Hackworth re Soho Works'.

My dear Mr Greener
Your more than kind letter is just to hand. I cannot tell you how much I am obliged for your promised attention to Sister’s claims as well as for your kind solicitude on account of my health. I am however sorry that my incautious mention of my recent illness should have given you and dear Mrs Greener any anxiety, as I now trust all danger of a return of the bleeding has ceased, which you will think with me is likely, when I tell you that the late rupture did not proceed from emaciation but from imprudently reading aloud at a very rapid rate for many hours together. I am happy to say I feel very very much better than I did when I last addressed you, and am fast regaining my appetite. Miss H. Smith my indefatigable nurse is frequently surprising me with little delicacies, and everybody I know here are loading me with kindnesses consequently it will not be necessary for me to seek “rest and quiet” elsewhere.
Nevertheless, I am the same indebted to you and Mrs G. for offering to receive me at Etherley. I give you a solemn promise, for every reason you urge, I will take all requisite care of myself; and do not intend to confine myself much to school duties during the remainder of the half year.

In reference to the Soho property, it has occured to me, that it would be well forthwith to announce in several papers, that tenders for the purchase or hire of the Works, will be received up till the end of the year at which time it will be sold or let as may then be determined upon.

With love and renewed thanks to you & Mrs G.
Believe me ever
Very faithfully & affectionately Yours
P. Hackworth
