My dear Jane,

I must preface my letter by asking you to pardon neglect, I ought to have written you sooner, all that I can plead in absence from home and multipicity of engagements. I certainly never did write to you with greater pleasure than at the present time it would give me pleasure to hear that you prosper and do well in this world, but what is there in this world to be compared to the sweet reality’s of religion blessed by God when the sound of the gosple vibrates powerfully through the heart & soul we are ready to echo back to David and say true your Majesty “blessed are the people that know the joyful sound” Gods gosple is glad tidings of great joy to all who obey his commands through our Lord Jesus. My dear Jane add to prayer watchfullness let nothing divert your attention from a calm & steady persevearance never lose sight of John Bunyans “Man upon the tree” he died for all that may be saved God bless you we are looking for the happy moment when you will visit us again in the mean time I am your loving father.
