Letter from John Cleminson, Shildon to Rev McCulley [presumably intended for McCullagh], Bishop Auckland
Presumably this letter was passed to a member of the family from Rev McCulley/McCullagh or it was a copy letter. He had know Jane Hackworth (nee Golightly) for 22 years; describes prayer meetings that she ‘kept up’ at 5 o clock in the morning; laid the foundation stone and gave an address when the chapel at New Shildon was built, when there was a dispute about the deeds she went to the owner of the land and pleaded her cause; religious references. Referenced in Robert Young, Timothy Hackworth and the Locomotive (London: Locomotive Publishing Company, 1923), p. 344.
