Stivers [?], U.S. Navy had suggested he brought the invention before the authorities in Washington, ‘I came to this country for my health, when I left England the gear was at work on fifty steamers. A locomotive on the Hudson River Railway has been running with it over five months’ on reverse ‘description of John Wesley Hackworth’s patent reverse and variable expansion valve motion’.
