My Dearest Daughter Jane
I am very sorry that I have been so long in answering your very kind letter, I do not like to see the Iron of affection cool & I fear you will think it is so on my part, but be assured that it is as warm as ever; I believe more so since you left home – I was up at Weardale last week; up at Etherley yesterday; & at York to day- still I might have got a little time, had I husbanded that time well – I must say I have had some strong exercises of mind – yet this is not a sufficient excuse – perhaps sister E Holmes will be to see you today – give my very warmest love to sisters the young Ladies, Mrs Fortune. accept accept the same yourself from your ever loving father in great haste
