Refers to meeting with McConnell at Wolverton with John and Timothy [Hackworth’s sons] looked at letter in 'strange manner', competition expressed in jest, could not go through with such competition with Pott’s engine 'this was certainly a nice way of getting out of it', he is not 'friendly' unlikely to buy engine [probably refers to Sanpareil 2].
