North Eastern Railway a ‘snake in the grass’ bought the Stockton & Darlington Railway and did their best to destroy Shildon and take it off the map, Mr Bainbridge [F.F. Bainbridge] said that Shildon had only ‘gone ahead’; the North Eastern Railway could have continued locomotive production at Soho; describes Soho works; Stockton & Darlington Railway and Pease family get the credit; writing a foreword; suggestion that Timothy Hackworth was a superintendent is ridiculous.
