My dear Mr Greener,
On leaving home brother Timothy informed me that you had given him instructions to pay me the expenses (£10.14s).I had met on behalf of the executors, but at the time it was not in his power so to do, as all his resources were condemned. Such being the case and believing that the sum would soon be forthcoming, I was reduced to receive the money from sister Holmes who I learn (after much enquiry) has not been reimbursed. Now as their missionary anniversary is approaching, I begin to be very anxious about her since I know she has during the last few months had some heavy demands of her own on her present yearly income besides the entire maintenance of my sisters at Soho from the time their allowance ceased. I feel sure she must be in straitened circumstances, therefore beg as a favour to myself she may if it be practicable be re-paid the sum originally owing me. Not any member of my family knows that I am addressing you on the subject or intend so doing. I cannot help feeling grieved at brother Timothy not having endeavoured to get her the money long ere this, when he must have known that she was keeping his sisters out of a limited income. Certainly he should have seen that she was not compelled to be money lender too.
I shall be glad to hear from you soon. It is possible I may have to go home before the vacation as I have not been very well for a few days, having slightly ruptured a blood vessel on Thursday last. I am however very much better to-day the bleeding has quite subsided Should there be any return of the discharge I shall wrap myself up and start for Soho immediately and send dear Jenny to fill my place here for a while. As our fold are in perfect ignorance of my indisposition and it is now to be hoped with care (which I shall not fail to take of myself) I shall speedily be in the enjoyment of my wanted health. I conjure you my dear Sir not to breath a word on the subject to anyone except your better half. I would not for worlds, I was going to say, but worlds are large thing I would be esteemed where portions are so hardly to be met with, but assuredly I would not for a great deal have them unnecessarily made anxious on my account.
Kindest regards to yourself and dear Mrs Greener who I trusts continues better. Please excuse all defects. I am not quite in writing trim.
Believe me ever
Your faithful obliged friend
