Letter from Samuel Holmes, The Ferns, Sutton, Surrey to Robert Young

My dear Bob,
Your letter just received gives me great pleasure as by it we learn you are home safely. There was a great chance you might have to walk home from Liverpool but you escaped that so may be considered a lucky man. It will give us great pleasure to accept your invitation and come to you next Thursday (xxxxxxx Oct. 2nd). Of course this is dependent on our being physically able to get to you either by train service or automobile. If the train service enables us to travel that may be all the better but if the strike is still on we will take an automobile unless they are all commandeered. We will surely know near the time & will of course telegraph you under all circumstances.
I need not say that I look forward to being with you. I have seen them all in Yorkshire and had a pleasant time in their presence. I went to the South Kensington Museum last week xxxxxxx and found the copper model of the ‘Royal George’ in Case No.1 in the model room. It looked very well so that settles its whereabouts. It was the last information about it I received and I am glad it proved correct. The Sanspareil looked well (in good order) also Stephenson’s engine (Rocket). I found the card marking insufficient & wrote the curator when I returned home about it suggesting an alteration in the detail & stating you were arriving home that day and with his permission we would like to meet him and show reasons. It is my much desire to see your wife & family so give them my love & say we are coming after all the talk about it.
