Regarding his visit to Shildon, impressed by Shildon Mechanics Institute pressing such an interesting record as contained in their diary and journal, will contain interesting information; describes Timothy Hackworth's diary adding this to the book would add a ‘dramatic touch’; Timothy Hackworth was not a superintendent, Stephenson in 1829 directs letter to ‘Engineman’. Surviving records of Shildon Mechanics Institute cannot be located.
