April 23d The Switches at Aycliffe Lane was wedged wrong with stones and William 4th Engine Came down about 11Oclock at Night and was thrown upon the Depose and Broke Matthw Turnbulls Shop Doors and A Horse Carrage.

April 23d Matthew Turnbulls man and 2 of Charls Laws men made the Rocket Engine follow them from Rid Hall to Darlington before they would Let the Engine pass; they came past 3 Switches I was with the Engine and told them I would Fine them 3 Halph Crowns each as it was equal to three offences. I hope the Company will Let it Stand so; as it is an eveal that we must put down
