May 3d 1833, Reports made to the Stockton and Darlington Railway Commettee by John Graham

Elias Smith is quite aggreable to Commence Leading the Merchandice Goods with the Locomotive Engines as soon as the waggons are put into Repair which he thinks will not be before June

The Trade has gone very well on all this week we could have Led more Coals if the Collierys had been all working, we have only averaged 12⅚ Engines at Work each Day Leaving 9⅙ off work each Day

There has been different places set Fire to this week by the Locomotive Engines. Viz__________
The Companys Plantation on the 4th by the Rocket Engine and Mr Fowlers Plantation on the 7th by the Expearement Engine; and the Grass on the imbankment near oak Tree by the North Star on the 7th; There is different other places on the Line where the Grass has been on Fire__
It appears that the Engines are not safe even with the cinder traps on the chimneys when they are hard Fired and going quick; I have giving Orders to all the Engine men not to exceed the Rate of 5 miles per Houre whilst
