March 17th 1843
John Graham Reports

On Tusday last the Clutch of the Black Boy Engine Drums Broke. It was Replaced and the Engine Commenced working at 11 Oclock the following Day during which time the Collieries was Supplied with Empty Waggons by Horses so that they were not prevented working
The Shaft had got out of trouth which had been the Cause of Breaking the Clutch

The Depots at Spring Gardens upon the Company Property are unoccupied except for the Workmans Coals of Evenwood Colliery from 2 to 3 Waggons are delivered there per fortnight; Those Occupied by Mr McLean are not upon the Companys property.
From 4 to 6 Waggons per Day are Delivered at Evenwood Bridge from Garden or Evenwood Collieries
