October 21st 1837
John Graham Reports to the Commettee

That he has seen N Downing respecting supplying the Black Boy Engine with Water
N D Pumped his Well down and found that it did not flow so fast as he expected; J G has also been through the Fields ajoining Brusselton Engine and has found no water that can be got without Sinking a Well

On the 7th Instant Robt Lenchester Engineman Passed Darlington About 9 OClock in the morning and did not arrive

at Shildon untill near 12 OClock at which time he arrived with Other three or foure Engines behind him having Stoped at Ayclife Lane to drink he also Left his Engine after he arrived at Shildon and went into the Engine [struck through] Inn untill near Three OClock J G then being informed of it ordered the Engine to be put by untill Monday his Brother Came up R Lenchester being much in Liqueur at the Time J G has not allowed him to go upon an Engine Since
