August 16th 1833, Reports made to the Stockton & Darlington Railway Commettee by John Graham
Gentlemen
As the Engines are scarcely half imployed with the Trade at present, and the Suspension Bridge having been made sufficiently strong enough to carrey the Engines with there trains, I would Recomend the Company to Lead the Middlesbro Coals with the Engines, as it would be A Great Saving; Viz 3½d per waggon
We have laid off 3 men and A Horse at Bowesfield Lane since the Bridge was strengthened, who were imployed Running the waggons, another man can be saved if Archd Knox was to make himselfe more usefull, that is to receive the Tickets and tick them off himselfe when the Engines arrives
