July 19th 1833, Reports made to the Stockton and Darlington Railway Commettee by John Graham

July 15th, As the Leading waggons was assending Brusselton West Bank the Cupling Chain Broke between the first and second waggon and 1 Side Chain gave way also and onaccount of the weight all being throwing upon the other side Chain it throwd the waggon off the way upagainst the Bridge and Broke the Roap; and with the suden check of the Engine the East Bank Rope Broke also; Damage done to the waggons is about 14 £; the Cupling Chain was very Bad Iron

As the Company is at A great expence making and Repairing Coupling Chains and has to keep A man constant imployed gathering them up; it would be well if any thing Binding could be put into the By Laws to make the Coal Owners keep there Coupling Chains and Pins Fixed to there waggons

George Keener an Old man of Darlington who is in the Habit of gethering Coals upon the Railway near Houghton Lane; he has been discharged and thretned by Joseph Stevenson and John Sidgwick different times; he still continues to gether Coals at the above place and it is doubtfull that he will be getting Run over by some of the Engines.
